Strips:

At the same woodstore I found some Red Cedar boards from 20'. Friendly as they where they offered to saw them at now extra charge. When they heard the size thy were a bit startled. I wanted the boards cut up into strips measuring 3/4 x 1/4". The size 1/4" was important because I had to use a router of that size.

My compliments for the guy at the saw! All strips were exactly the size they should be. After  one morning of playing with the router together with my neighbour they were all ready to be planked.

I had to order the router in America, because they don't sell them in Holland. With thanks to the internet and my American Express!

Now the real work could start. The first strip could be placed. I first sorted them on color and made pairs of them. The first strips I glued with glue from a squishing bottle.  You can believe me....... that's something you quit very fast!

Very soon I changed to a glue gun. Muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch easier, point in the grove and shoot!

I had to work on both sides of the canoe at the same speed to make sure that the strips were always at the same height.

The higher I came the harder it got to make the strips bend. At the end all is allowed as long as they stay at the proper bend.

With the canoe half way closed I took one strip and put it from bow till stern to make a straight line. Gently I used a jig saw to follow the line up to each mold and then turn it to saw to the mold from the other side. On the mold I used a knife and I made the line straight using a small plain.
